Primary Function:

The Corporate Trade Manager is responsible for managing and supporting the company's global export compliance program to ensure compliance with applicable U.S. and international export control laws and regulations. This role serves as a subject matter expert on export compliance matters, providing guidance to business functions including Sales, Operations, Engineering, Customer Service, and Procurement.

The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in export compliance and trade compliance program management, with strong knowledge of U.S. export regulations, denied party screening requirements, licensing processes, and trade compliance risk management in a multinational manufacturing environment. Due to the nature of work and access to export-controlled data, U.S. citizenship is required. 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Export Compliance Program Management

  • Support and maintain the corporate export compliance program.
  • Develop, implement, and improve export compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Conduct export compliance risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate business impacts to stakeholders.
  • Maintain export-related records in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Export Classification & Licensing

  • Determine and maintain Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCNs) and other export classifications for products, software, and technology.
  • Review products classified as EAR99 and controlled items under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Evaluate export licensing requirements and prepare export license applications when necessary.
  • Support jurisdiction and classification reviews involving export-controlled technology.

Export Transaction Reviews

  • Review export transactions for regulatory requirements and restrictions.
  • Provide guidance on direct and indirect exports, reexports and transfers, deemed exports, technology releases, and end-use and end-user restrictions.
  • Support business teams with export compliance decision-making throughout the sales cycle.

Training & Awareness

  • Develop and deliver export compliance training programs.
  • Promote employee awareness of trade compliance requirements.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to internal stakeholders on export-related matters.

Audits & Monitoring

  • Conduct internal compliance reviews and audits.
  • Track corrective actions resulting from audits and investigations.
  • Prepare compliance metrics and management reports.
  • Support external audits, assessments, and government inquiries when required.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Legal, Logistics, Engineering, Quality, Procurement and Sales teams.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, and new business initiatives from an export compliance perspective.
  • Participate in compliance committees and working groups.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Due to the nature of work and access to export-controlled data, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Legal Studies, Engineering, Political Science, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in export compliance, global trade compliance, or international trade.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. and global export regulations, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC, and other applicable international trade laws.
  • Experience supporting a multinational manufacturing organization.
  • Experience with export classifications, licensing determinations, and transaction due diligence.
  • Experience developing and implementing compliance procedures and controls.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulatory information.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CUSECO, CCEP, CCS) are a plus.

 Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in technology, aerospace, defense, or automotive sectors.
  • Experience with SAP, Oracle or other trade compliance management systems.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, matrixed environment with competing priorities. 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 15% domestic and international travel initially and as needed.
