Director of Engineering

PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position will directly lead the team to deliver new products from design to prototype to production and work with individual manufacturing and development groups to determine strategic plan for new part development, cost reduction, and profitability. You will bring leadership, business acumen and energy to support the development of the manufacturing capabilities critical to support the growth of business. Motivate change, mentor young minds, and oversee all development activities of the engineering group and the ability to teach forward thinking. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Develop and lead a manufacturing performance culture.

·        Energize and transform the manufacturing organization.

·        Work with the sales and engineering team to accelerate the NPI process.

·        Build robust processes that drive quality.

·        Provide strategic direction for engineering activities. 

·        Determine and establish basic costs of processed materials, services, workforce, and equipment to maintain an effective P&L. 

·        Establish and meet engineering goals which deliver cost reduction, utilization improvements, and quality improvements for products and services for all globally assigned facilities. 

·        Establish and meet production goals which satisfy current and future internal customers. Partner with Marketing for long-term planning of space, workforce, equipment, and materials which meet future forecasts. 

·        Resolve customer issues with other facilities for all products and services delivered. 

·        Collaborate with external suppliers to specify parameters of incoming raw materials to ensure no processing and quality problems at the lowest possible overall cost. 

·        Collaborate with external suppliers to improve materials to meet engineering goals. 

·        Responsible for coordination and implementation of all KAVX procedures for policies within the department 

·        Work with the purchasing group to ensure an adequate supply of raw materials. 

·        Partner with manufacturing plants in solving materials EHS issues, Rohs Compliance issues, and incoming customer inspection issues. Establish internal quality control procedures to assure internal customers will receive and be able to use materials with minimal incoming QC. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE: The ideal candidate for this position will have at least 10+ years of leadership experience, preferably in the electronics industry.

·        An accomplished executive with both relevant operations transformation experience and leadership competencies.

·        Exceptional leader with the ability to build effective, trusting relationships with employees and customers.

·        Experience in product co-development and creative customer solutions.

·        Demonstrated success leading an organization to the “next level” of business achievement making a significant step change in performance in a relatively brief period of time.   

·        Strong business acumen – with the ability to see cause and effect between tactics and financial outcomes.

·        Understand the income statement, budgeting, cash flow management and the balance sheet.

·        The skillset to develop effective metrics and accountabilities.

·        Previously led a manufacturing organization building a performance organization that values people and is customer centric.

·        Ability to build a unified, high performing team by engaging employees at all levels of the organization.

·        Must be an enthusiastic and dynamic leader with the energy and communication skills to work effectively across the organization.

·        The ability to effectively coach and provide feedback in a manner that drives optimum performance and develops people.

·        Must be accountable, open and transparent, collaborator, decision maker and an inspirational leader with high energy.

·        Should have knowledge and previous successful application of advanced operational concepts (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, theory of constraints, etc.).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Master’s preferred. 

  • 15+ years’ experience in electronics manufacturing or other related technologies, including at least 5 years’ experience in managing teams. Experience in financial planning and budgeting required. 
  • Continuous improvement and creative critical thinking skills. 
  • Project management, excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate with all levels of AVX management. 
  • Strong ability to lead and develop teams, including strategic long-term planning for the group.
